A ceramic coating is a protective layer bonded to your paint. It makes the finish slicker and glossier, sheds water instead of holding it, and stands between your clear coat and the things that dull it — UV, road film, bird mess, tree sap and the light marring that a bad wash leaves behind. Paint is corrected first, because a coating locks in whatever is under it.

Does a coating mean I never have to wash the car?
No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What it means is that washing gets much easier and much safer — dirt struggles to key into the surface, so most of it comes off with far less contact. Less contact is what actually keeps paint looking new.
Does my paint need work first?
Usually some, yes. A coating is clear and it bonds to whatever is underneath — so swirls, marring and etching get sealed in under gloss rather than fixed by it. We correct first and coat second. That order is the whole difference between a coating that looks incredible and one that just looks shiny.
